Writing Workshops

Writing as a Sacred Practice

“The room was the poem. The day I was in. Oh Christ. What writes my poem is a second ring, inner or outer ring. Poetry is just the performance of it. These little things, whether I write them or not. That’s the score. The thing of great value is you. Where you are, glowing and fading, while you live.”
–Eileen Myles

Writing is listening is deepening is singing is poem-ing is whispering is raging.

Do you crawl into the pages of your journal to get centered? Do you love to write, but struggle to make time for it? Do you get steamrolled by your guilt around not writing, or not being good enough? Are you searching for a spiritual practice that centers around your creativity? Do you have rivers of poetry or stories that are pulling at the corners of your mind, begging to be released?

This 4-week workshop series will give you a chance to get in touch with the genius of your writerly essence, in the safe space of a loving circle of support and witnessing. We will focus on the process of writing as a healing act in itself and will explore different portals into your sacred inner landscape. We will write and we will read and we will drink delicious tea.

This series is designed for writers of all levels, even if you don’t consider yourself a writer. Each workshop will have a theme: Essence, Doing, Listening, and Detail as Doorway.  With the completion of the series, participants will have the option of participating in an intention-setting ritual regarding their sacred writing practice.

You ARE a writer. Come join us and unleash your wild mind!

Cost is $100-120 (sliding scale) for the series.

Writing the Tarot

This workshop brings together two of my favorite things: writing and the archetypal wonderland of the Tarot! In it, we dive deep into the realm of the journey represented by the Tarot’s archetypes.

We will use relevant writing and artwork to get at the infinite wisdom we carry in reference to these archetypes.  In this way, not only is it a yummy chance to write beyond the veil of the ordinary, but will greatly enhance your Tarot knowledge, in a sort of apprenticeship.

As a Tarot practitioner, I will guide you with insight, love, my experience as a writer and teacher of writing, and of course, magick! This is a workshop series, to be offered monthly.  No matter where you are in your writing or Tarot practice, this will be a juicy experience and a chance to write in community.

Please feel free to bring your own deck. Space is limited, so sign up quick! To register for these workshops, email me at: shae.savoy@gmail.com. Please do follow registration deadline to help me with planning. Thanks!!

Cost for each workshop is sliding scale $30-45.

Growing Out Our Mermaid Tales: Women Reclaiming Voice

“Once a woman poet begins telling the truth there is no end of possibilities.”

–Judy Grahn

When I began formally studying poetry in a graduate program, I embarked on a sort of treasure hunt in search of women poets whose work I could relate to. As I discovered one, she would lead me to the next, and to the next, and as I gradually began to unearth the hidden stockpile of writing that speaks to my experience as a woman, I was also stricken with grief and outrage at the systematic burying of women’s words. We shouldn’t have to dig so hard.

Inspired by Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” this intensive writing workshop for women will be an exploration of the ways our voices have been lost, sacrificed, squashed and otherwise silenced.

In a sacred, supportive, inspiring space, we will access our powerful and much-needed voices through the portals of anger, grief, sexuality and cultural notions of madness. We will use pieces of writing, artwork and music to coax our stories onto the page. This workshop is for all kinds of writers of all levels, including those of us who may not think of ourselves as writers.

We will write. We may also whoop ‘n holler, scream, laugh—who knows what else.
We will heal.
We will grow out our tales—

Light refreshments will be provided.

Time: 11:30-3:30
